I wrote last week about my housemates being burglarized. I really meant it to be just part of my trip, and not an indictment of India necessarily. I know people who have been ripped off in just about every country of the world.
A couple of people who live here all the time, or spend alot of time here, have complained about the police though. And I experienced what seems like minor corruption from some security guards here. Once again, I don't mean this to sound like I think it is unique to this incredible country. Personally, with what is going on in the States right now, I think we have pretty muched cornered the market on corruption.
There is an overwhelming sense of spirituality here, I don't think it is just because I'm so deeply involved in this yoga community. And I don't mean religion either. But there is a sense just walking the streets that people recognize that we are all connected. The traffic here illustrates that. Everybody goes with the flow, to me it looks like madness, but there is little or no road rage. Everone just gets along.
There are temples big and small everywhere, to various Hindu gods. These gods really just represent parts of ourselves or the human experience. I find it all so inspiring.
Personally, my yoga practice is so inspiring. I'm learning so much and working so hard. My practice is really progressing. Once again, the heat and the energy are incredible.
The weather continues to be amazing. Every day lately seems like a perfect day. Still cool in the mornings, but now the days are getting warmer, I would say into the 80's. I wouldn't know for sure because I have only occasionally glanced at a newspaper, and haven't once looked at a tv.

Dear Geoffrey
ReplyDeleteI've been reading and re-living my Indian experiences through your entries, your writing being so much more beautiful than I could ever hope to commit to paper.
I shouldn't worry about your honest observations of what goes on in India. As you say, all societies suffer from this and your entries by no means come across as antagonistic or judgemental.
I think your worry comes from being in such a spiritual country and witnessing everyday, non-spiritual actions. It's cause/effect I guess and as one delves into more of the Indian social fabric some of the realities can be very upsetting. What offsets this though, and what you write so beautifully about, is the amazing spiritual capacity of the place. Very inspiring!
I look forward to reading more.
much love
Jarod
